An opportunity exists within the Facilities & Construction Management Department, Cul De Sac to fill the position of Air Conditioning Technician
JOB SUMMARY
To install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair and maintain all air conditioning systems and ventilation units at all LUCELEC facilities, in accordance with building codes, blueprints, instructions, and manuals, to at all times ensure their efficient and effective functioning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Conducts routine inspections on all air conditioning systems, examining all parts and recording observations, to determine if maintenance schedule is on track and to ensure the system is in good working order.
- Troubleshoots and repairs all electrical and mechanical defects and malfunctions of the air conditioning systems, by quickly locating and diagnosing maintenance problems, to keep system and the work environment safe and reliable.
- Assists with the development and implementation of a reliability-centred, preventive and planned maintenance programme for the air conditioning systems, to minimize incidence of malfunction and downtime and to increase life expectancy of the system.
- Completes work orders related to routine, planned, preventive and breakdown maintenance, in a timely manner, to ensure work spaces, structures and infrastructure remain in proper operating condition.
- Routinely performs and maintains inventory of all LUCELEC ventilation and air conditioning systems, by taking physical stock/count and inspections, to ensure the availability of parts and supplies for the timely maintenance and repair of the ventilation and air conditioning system and to prevent stock-out.
- Prepares material list and cost estimates for the ventilation and air conditioning maintenance, repair and replacement, to secure the required funding and support for the timely procurement of equipment and supplies for the requisite A/C project.
- Performs basic ventilation and air conditioning system designs, inclusive of unit sizing and development of specification, applying knowledge of A/C and refrigeration system, to meet the cooling load and design calculation needs of the Company.
- Assists in the development of new initiatives, through assessments of issues and requirements and research, to enhance, reliability, reduce energy consumption and improve air quality associated with air conditioning systems
- Performs oversight, review and certification of all works undertaken by Air Conditioning Contractors on behalf of LUCELEC, to ensure works are undertaken in accordance with applicable Company standards, procedures and regulatory requirements, and for quality assurance and value maximization.
- Conducts performance tests, using specialized tools and programmes and calibrates and adjusts system setting, to keep temperature comfortable and to ensure the operational efficiency of the air conditioning system.
- Documents and maintain records of all tasks undertaken on the air conditioning Systems, to facilitate lessons learnt and knowledge sharing, proper maintenance and job performance tracking, monitoring of the health of the air conditioning systems and to decrease troubleshooting time.
- Supports a safe work environment, by actively practicing the Company’s safety and health policy and promoting a culture of safety, among others, to prevent/reduce workplace incidents, accidents or injuries.
- Updates the Facilities & Construction Management Supervisor on work matters by providing briefings as necessary, and submitting reports, to enable timely responses to issues and the implementation of improvement measures.
- Assists with the preparation the annual budget for the air conditioning, maintenance, repair and replacement, to ensure funds are available for the execution of A/C projects.
- Remains current in the knowledge of the latest trends in the field of Heat, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, networking, among others, to aid in the formulation of effective solutions and initiatives.
- Liaises with all managers, supervisors and staff of the various departments and Sections within the Company for the effective execution of job functions.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
1. Associate Degree in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Systems with at least five (5) years’ relevant experience, plus valid License and Certification for Refrigeration & Air Conditioning System.
2. Five (5) CXC General Proficiency I or II including Mathematics and English A.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of the practices and principles for effective preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems;
- General knowledge of the Company’s and departmental guidelines and standard operating procedures;
- Broad job knowledge and/or technical expertise relevant to the job, and ability to provide sound advice;
- Strong knowledge of the methods, practices, test instruments, tools, and materials typically applied in repairing and servicing various refrigeration and air conditioning systems, and other similar equipment;
- Sound knowledge of local electrical and heat, ventilation and air conditioning [HVAC] codes as well as safe indoor air quality standards;
- Strong knowledge of the repair characteristics and mechanical operation of various types of air conditioning and refrigerating equipment;
- Sound knowledge of the basic principles of electrical installation;
- Ability to read blueprints to learn where panel boards, circuits, outlets and other components of an air conditioning system;
- Ability to quickly and correctly diagnose, locate, and fix defects in refrigeration and air conditioning systems/units and similar equipment;
- Ability to operate still and video cameras for accurately recording field conditions and gathering data;
- Ability to analyse and compile technical and statistical information and prepare reports
- Ability to understand complex written and verbal instructions, as well as simple sketches and diagrams, and accurately execute them;
- Good organizational and time management skills, ability to remain calm under pressure in a dynamic environment;
- Effective computer literacy skills; ability to manipulate software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation programme and software tools for air conditioning duties;
- Effective interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with diverse individuals;
- Effective oral and written communication and active listening skills;
- Good numeracy skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;
- Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, tact and diplomacy in the execution of duties;
